2013 Year in Review

Posted on January 3rd, 2014

In 2011, we launched the Renaissance Network – a management company that works exclusively with Seventh-day Adventist K-12 schools. Today, the Renaissance Network operates on three campuses, strengthening the educational experience of 552 students.

We’ve seen progress in the Renaissance Network that we only dreamed possible three years ago. We thank God for His guidance through the development of this program.

Below is a quick review of milestones reached this year.

January – Maranatha Volunteers finished more renovations at Thunderbird Adventist Academy, including a recreation room for the girls’ dorm, the girls’ dean’s apartment, one wing in each dorm, and cafeteria furniture refurbishing.

February –Thunderbird went under a rigorous accreditation evaluation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

April – We welcomed TWO new schools into the Renaissance Network, Hinsdale Adventist Academy near Chicago and Madison Academy near Nashville. Check out our spring newsletter for more information.

May – In May and June we hosted “Meet and Greets” at each school to meet the staff and share what it means to be a Renaissance School.

June – We honored 10 outstanding teachers with an Excellence in Teaching Award and $2,000. Read more below.

July – We hosted all the Renaissance principals, business managers and school managers for a workshop in Chattanooga, TN. During this meeting, we discussed how the Renaissance schools would work together. Also, we sent out our summer newsletter.

August – All three schools designed and implemented School Enhancement Plans (business and education plans). We also developed an operations manual, which includes quality standards, policies and procedures rooted in best practice.

September – Implemented professional development programs throughout the network, including Professional Learning Communities (small teams of teachers and staff that develop strategies for student achievement) and school workshops focused on building a corporate culture of trust (based on the best-selling book “The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey).

October – Designed an innovative school board model, which was adopted by two Renaissance schools. We were also able to increase enrollment at each Renaissance school with Hinsdale at full capacity!

November – We sent out our fall newsletter with updates from all Renaissance principals. Read more here.

December – Launched our holiday fundraiser to raise $300,000 by January 15. If we can meet this goal, one of our major partners, the Commonweal Foundation, will match it – 100%. This could mean $600,000 to enhance Adventist education. Click here to help us meet our goal!

As well as bringing one additional school into the Renaissance Network in 2014, we’ll be introducing several programs that drive improvement at each campus. As we plan for this next year, we ask for your continued prayer and support.
