Dorm Renovations Scheduled for Thunderbird

Posted on January 3rd, 2012

Thunderbird Adventist Academy (TAA) received a merry Christmas gift when Maranatha Volunteers International announced their plans to provide the manpower and funds to renovate the dormitories this February and March!

Last month Maranatha partnered with the Renaissance Network to oversee a variety of renovations at TAA. Originally, smaller projects were planned for the January visit, such as landscaping, painting, cleaning and carpeting.

Now, with these new funds, Maranatha is able to do so much more! Maranatha will be bringing an army of volunteers to complete phase one of renovations—one wing of the boy’s dorm and one wing of the girl’s dorm. The other section of the dorms will house students while the construction takes place.

The renovations will include upgrading the bathrooms to be handicap accessible, painting, replacing 183 windows, countertops, upgrading lighting throughout, replacing tile/carpet and some framing. To allow enough time to order materials and recruit volunteers, the project has been rescheduled for February 13 through March 6, 2012.

I am very excited for this renovation schedule applied to changes going on at Thunderbird Academy. I have seen some of the new changes that have occured thus far and have been very pleased with the cosmetic changes in the school campus. These changes have been seemed to have revamped the enthusiasm of the parents and faculty. Furthermore the changes have been well accepted by the students of Thunderbird, but they have yet to see any deeper changes occur on the superficial aspect of the school. These renovations are made to change the way the school is run and the way potential students see Thunderbird. Asking the students how this applies to them and what they think the changes should unfold would be a great plan of action for attracting the future teenagers to this great learning environment. This extra step would probably be one of the most satisfying steps taken during this course of improvment for the better of the students at Thunderbird Adventist Academy.

Thank you for your cooperation with the school and for the consideration you take in every option.

      Dear Mr. Baldman,

Thank you for your comment. We agree! We know we have barely scratched the surface in bringing lasting change to Thunderbird, but be assured that we are taking a comprehensive and long-term look at how we can best resource the school. The students are definitely the number one priority as we work to instill a culture of excellence. And we are grateful to the students and faculty for their hard work in making this a reality.

Thank you for your quick and complete response. I am looking forward to seeing these changes and hearing the students comments on your progressive work. I would appreciate it if I could be emailed info on the changes for the future and some detailed plans to help people understand if needed.

        Thank you again,
        Gregg Balderman
