Official Statement from Thunderbird Adventist Academy

Dear Friends and Family of Thunderbird Adventist Academy–

It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the loss of one of our Thunderbird students, Andrew Murphy, a junior. On Thursday afternoon, September 13th, Andrew tragically lost his life while heroically intervening and ultimately saving his sister’s life.

Andrew was a happy young man, full of life and strength. He enjoyed being at school with his friends and classmates and was a very positive member of our Thunderbird family. He is now resting in Jesus. Let us support his sisters, Mone’t and Cheyenne, his parents, family, friends, and the Thunderbird family with our thoughts and prayers.

There will be pastors, counselors, and teachers at the school Sunday afternoon at the end of Home Leave and throughout the coming week.

The funeral will be on Sunday, September 23rd. A prayer vigil will be held at 6 PM tomorrow at M Park where Andrew died.

For those who can help, some people established the Andrew Murphy Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo, account # 9178395787; this fund will help the family with the costs of the funeral and other related expenses.

Asleep in Jesus! Peaceful rest!
Whose waking is supremely blessed.
Securely shall my ashes lie,
And wait the summons from on high.
~ Margaret McKay

“Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” I Thessalonians 4:16-17
